Graeme Dott, more than anybody else, must have been surprised at reaching last year's World Championship final.
The Scot, who had previously only reached the second round of the Crucible event, was thrashed 18-8 by world number one Ronnie O'Sullivan.
A runner-up spot at the Malta Cup and a last eight finish in the UK Championship has seen Dott rise from 15th to eighth in the world rankings.
The 27-year-old made a 147 against David Roe at the 1999 British Open.
Dott turned professional in 1994, but did not reach his first final until the 1999 Regal Scottish, where he was beaten 9-1 by Stephen Hendry.
Two years later, he made it to the final of the British Open, but this time suffered a 9-6 loss to another fellow Scot, John Higgins.
