Davis books date with Whirlwind
Steve Davis
Steve Davis thrashed Jamie Burnett 5-0
Steve Davis booked a second round clash with fellow snooker legend Jimmy White at the LG Cup on Sunday.

The six-time world champion rolled back the years to overcome Scotland's Jamie Burnett 5-0 and set up the meeting with White.

"It's always exciting to play Jimmy but I can't ever remember meeting him so early in a tournament," confessed Davis.

"We've had some great games in the past in front of jam-packed crowds."

Elsewhere on Sunday, Stephen Lee retained his grip on the LG Cup in Preston after receiving a scare from Welsh qualifier Ryan Day.

The defending champion became the first player to reach the last 16 courtesy of a 5-4 win over the newcomer of the year.

He did so with a brilliant clearance of 141 and a vital 52 in the decider, started by a fluked opening red.

Thailand's James Wattana, earlier completed a sensational comeback to beat Robin Hull 5-4 from being 4-0 down.

Wattana was one frame away from going out of the competition but he dug deep to bundle the promising young Finn out of the tournament in Preston.

"I was gutted to be 4-0 down and I can't believe I won," admitted Wattana.

"He would have won if he had played tighter."

In the second round Wattana will meet England's Paul Hunter.

Ireland's Michael Judge earned a second round match against former world champion Mark Williams by thrashing Englishman Dave Finbow.

Judge crushed Finbow 5-0 in the morning session at the LG Cup in Preston.

Scotland's Chris Small booked a second round clash with Joe Perry by seeing off Englishman Mark Davis 5-2.

Small raced to a 4-0 lead before Davis grabbed two frames in succession to cut the deficit, but then the Scot took the next one to close out the match.
