World champion John Higgins and 2011 runner-up Judd Trump will play in the Pink Ribbon charity tournament at the South West Snooker Academy.

The amateur qualifying rounds take place until Friday, when a clutch of leading players join the field.

Academy owner Paul Mount told BBC Gloucestershire: "It's an important tournament for me because I lost my sister to breast cancer at 39.

"We'll have 40 professionals competing here as well as about 150 amateurs."

He added: "The place will be buzzing and it'll be a good atmosphere, just as it was last year."

The 2010 event marked the opening of the academy, in Gloucester, and raised over £6,000 for Breast Cancer Awareness.

Defending champion Michael Holt, Mark Allen, Stephen Maguire and Jimmy White are also among the entries. Matches from the quarter-finals onwards take place on Sunday, with the final on Sunday evening.
