Mark Allen progressed to the China Open quarter-finals after defeating world number two Stephen Maguire 5-3 in Beijing on Thursday.

The Antrim player lost the opening frame but won the next four and Maguire fought back to make it 4-3 before Allen sealed the win with a break of 60.

"I'm pleased to get through because I wasn't at my best," said Allen.

The 24-year-old will now play former world champion Stephen Hendry on Friday for a place in the last four.

Allen also made two breaks of 63 and a blue-to-black clearance secured the fourth frame.

"This is my third quarter-final of the season and obviously I'm very keen to go further this time," added the world number 11.

"I came here to win the tournament and I'm still in it so I've still got a chance."

Allen made the last 16 after a 5-1 victory over former world champion Graeme Dott on Tuesday.
