Mark Allen
Mark Allen was a semi-finalist in the Northern Ireland Trophy
Antrim's Mark Allen defeated David Gilbert 5-4 to reach the last 32 of the Welsh Open at the Newport Centre.

In a match dominated by safety exchanges, Allen won the first frame but then trailed 2-1 and 3-2, before his experience proved decisive.

The young Northern Ireland player now meets Ryan Day for a place in the last sixteen of the ranking tournament.

Dungannon's Patrick Wallace lost 5-2 to Stuart Pettman in the qualifying stages of the tournament.
