Neil Robertson was not at his best but still beat Ryan Day to clinch a World Championship second-round clash with Crucible favourite Ronnie O'Sullivan.
Robertson has won two ranking tournaments this season
Australian Robertson led 6-3 after the first session and extended his advantage with a break of 63.
Welshman Day got back to 7-5 but failed to exert more pressure by allowing his opponent to win a pivotal 13th frame with his third attempt at the pink.
There was no second chance for Day as Robertson sealed a 10-5 win.
Robertson is the only player to win two ranking events this season, but the world number 13 will need to improve if he is to earn a third victory of the season over O'Sullivan.
He was unable to find his best form against Day, with unforced errors spoiling the flow of the match in the evening session.
Robertson said the conditions inside The Crucible were to blame for the mistake-ridden match.
"It was very hot and almost impossible to play well - we couldn't control the cue ball," he said.
The cushions were an absolute joke
Ryan Day on the tables in The Crucible
"Hopefully the tables will play a lot better for my match against Ronnie.
"I'll be really up for it and I'll play a lot better. I've beaten Ronnie twice this season so far and that gives me a lot of confidence."
Day, who recovered from 4-0 down in the first session, will regret the missed opportunity in frame 13, after having several opportunities to close the gap.
And he agreed with Robertson's assessment of the tables inside the theatre.
"It was quite a poor game - we can both play a lot better than we did, it was a struggle," said the 27-year-old.
"I hope they re-cloth the table for Neil's next match otherwise he could struggle again.
"We were chatting between frames and saying the cushions were an absolute joke - you didn't know where you were."
