Resilient Ebdon dashes Lee dreams
By Julian Shea
BBC Sport at The Crucible

Former world champion Peter Edbon
It was a typically battling display by Edbon
Peter Ebdon produced a trademark gritty display to earn a 13-9 win over Stephen Lee, having trailed 6-2 overnight.

Things looked grim for Ebdon when he lost two of the day's first three frames, but that was as good as it got for Lee, who only won one more frame.

Ebdon won the last five frames of the morning session and kept up the pressure after the resumption of play.

With several frames lasting over 30 minutes, it was hardly thrilling but no-one could deny Ebdon's quality.

Ebdon was pleased to have fought back from a substantial deficit.

"I'm not mentally shattered because I prepared hard for the event," he said.

"The way I played in the first session after going 6-2 down, I bet Stephen thought all his Christmases had come early. It was embarrassing.

"I have to put it down as one of my best wins of my career. I feel really good at this moment."
