Alan McManus emerged victorious from a gruelling match with Drew Henry.
McManus had to work hard to earn the overnight lead
McManus held a one frame lead overnight, but Henry hit a 128, the highest break of the tournament so far, to draw level at 5-5.
From then on, neither player managed to pull more than one frame ahead, although McManus made the higher breaks, with two of 63 and a 54.
A final frame decider was almost inevitable, and it was McManus who held on for a narrow win.
After the match, an exhausted McManus was just pleased to have progressed.
He said: "I'm so relieved - my head's still spinning. It was one of those matches that always looked like it was going all the way.
"The difference between winning and losing at the Crucible is miniscule.
"I was fighting to stay in the top 16, so there was a bit of pressure out there."
