Mark Allen beat John Higgins in the second round of the NI Trophy

Antrim's Mark Allen is through to the last eight of the Northern Ireland Trophy after defeating 1998 world champion John Higgins 4-1 on Thursday.
Allen, who whitewashed Steve Davis 4-0 in the first round, raced into a 3-0 lead with breaks of 62 in the first frame and 90 in the third frame.
Higgins won the fourth but Allen potted a superb pink to seal his second win in his first tournament as a professional.
Allen will play Stephen Hendry after the Scot beat Ding Junhui 4-2.
Elsewhere in the second round, Australia's Neil Robertson beat Jimmy White 4-2 and Matthew Stevens defeated Ken Doherty 4-1.
