Hendry sets up all-Scottish clash
Defending champion Stephen Hendry
Stephen Hendry produced an impressive display to see off Ali Carter 5-2 at the British Open and set up a quarter-final clash with John Higgins.

Higgins claimed the event's highest break so far, 141, in his 5-3 win over Barry Pinches and said afterwards he had been ready to leave at any time.

His wife Denise is due to give birth and he says he would pull out of the final if necessary to be with her.

"I had my phone on silent for the match," Higgins admitted afterwards.

Provided he is still around to play the match, Higgins will encounter Hendry in a rich vein of form.

He has not won a tournament since winning this title a year ago, but made breaks of 80, 90, 68 and 87 on his way to only his third win over Carter in six meetings.

"I knew I'd have to play well because Ali has saved some of his best snooker for me in the past," said Hendry.
