Ebdon takes football role
Peter Ebdon
Ebdon won the world title in 2002
Former world snooker champion Peter Ebdon is to be the first president of the reformed Wellingborough Town FC.

The Doughboys, the sixth-oldest club in England, went out of business in 2002 but has been resurrected and Ebdon is taking a leading role in the venture.

"It is nice from my part if I can help with the fundraising and raise the profile of the club," he said.

The Irish Masters champion added: "It is a very professional set-up and everything is being done properly."

A steering committee hopes to get the club playing competitive fixtures for the start of the 2005-06 season.

The committee has hopes of getting the club into the Nationwide Conference inside the first five seasons.
