Stephen Lee won six of the last seven frames
Stephen Lee dashed Jimmy White's fading dreams of that elusive Crucible title with a 13-11 second-round victory.
White won the first frame of the night to move into a 10-7 lead before Lee replied with breaks of 54, 61 and 63 to move into an 11-10 advantage.
The 10th seed dug deep in the 22nd to snatch it on the black with a superb cut into the bottom-left pocket.
But White's hopes did not last much longer as Lee took the final two frames to deny the six-times beaten finalist.
"I'm not very happy because I didn't play well," said 10th seed White.
"I just didn't score at all - if I got to 40 it was a result. I've been practising, but only on my own, and I'm going to have to get down a club and play some matches.
"I'm pleased to be staying in the top 16 and I'll definitely be back for another go next year."
Lee said: "Jimmy hasn't had the best of seasons and neither have I and that's why we both wanted to win so much.
"I wasn't in the game until it got to 10-10 but I felt comfortable in the last frame with the reds open.
"Obviously the crowd are behind Jimmy like they were when I beat Steve Davis. They are always behind them because they are legends in the game."
