Ebdon sees off Drago
By Phil Harlow

World champion Peter Ebdon
Ebdon infuriated his opponent

Defending champion Peter Ebdon wasted no time in sealing a 13-5 win over Tony Drago in an ill-tempered encounter.

Ebdon needed only 22 minutes to secure the two frames he needed for a place in the last eight after starting 11-5 up.

The match turned sour during the second session with Ebdon frustrating Drago with frequent toilet breaks and slow deliberations over his shots.

But when Ebdon clinched the match in the 18th frame the pair shook hands and put their bad feelings behind them.

Ebdon led 11-5 overnight after the evening session ended in acrimony.

Drago conceded the 15th frame with several reds still on the table after missing a simple pink and then Ebdon finished off in style with a 105 clearance.

Drago was incensed by his opponent's frequent toilet breaks and slow deliberations over his shots.

And on one occasion he sarcastically applauded the defending champion back to his chair.

Second round result: Peter Ebdon 13-5 Tony Drago (Mal)
