Mark Williams wasted no time in beating qualifier Stuart Pettman as he claimed a
comfortable 10-2 first-round win.
Mark Williams wasted little time in reaching round two
The 2000 champion quickly took the three frames he needed at the start of the evening
session to set up a meeting with Quinten Hann in the second round.
Watch Williams win
Pettman had a mountain to climb after trailing 7-2 at the end of the first session on Wednesday.
And Williams soon rattled in breaks of 78, 75 and 58 to end the hopes of the world number 58 from Preston.
Williams had sympathy for Pettman after his emphatic victory.
"It was a good scoreline and he was a little nervous as it was his first time here, but it was nervous for me too, being the first round," said Williams.
The third seed now faces Quinten Hann in the second round and Williams is prepared for a hard encounter.
"It is going to be a really tough match, but I am not really bothered because I shall just get on with my own game."
Pettman said: "I couldn't get into the first session, but even though Mark was well ahead in the second, I enjoyed it.
"He is probably the toughest player I could have met and obviously Mark has a great chance to win it, but so have some of the others.
"It's been fantastic coming here to play at The Crucible and I would love to qualify again next season."
