Ganley (right) is still a popular figure in snooker
Former referee Len Ganley's condition is "stable" after he suffered a heart attack at his home in Lurgan, Northern Ireland.

The 58-year-old, still a popular figure on the snooker circuit, took charge of four world championship finals before retiring in 1999.

Ganley who is now coaching youngsters in Northern Ireland, was taken to Craigavon Hospital.

The Ulsterman became famous to a wider audience when he starred in a lager commercial, in the mid 1980s, which saw him crush snooker balls with his hands.

Ganley is expected to make a full recovery.
