Robin Hull moved into the last 16 of the 2001 UK Championship after a crushing 9-2 victory over Mark King at the Barbican Centre in York.

And Hull's win was just the start of a night of giant-killing, as two more seeds were knocked out in an eventful session on Wednesday evening.

Graeme Dott lost 9-6 to Welshman Dominic Dale, while 10th seed No 10 Joe Swail who went down 9-5 to Mark Davis.

Hull finished off King at the start of the evening, having carved out a 7-1 lead in the first session of his second-round match.

The Finnish world number 86 who came through qualifying in Newport, was in dazzling form at the Barbican Centre in York.

Earlier, he began with a 114 in the first frame and added breaks of 57, 56 and 118 to lead 4-0 at the interval.

King - seeded 13 - pulled one back with a 57 but the Finn took the last three with runs of 44, 64 and 29 to leave himself two frames from victory.

Dott down and out

Dott from Glasgow lost 9-6 to Dale despite fighting back from 8-3 to 8-6.

Dale, the 1997 Grand Prix champion, secured a place in the last 16 with a break of 64 in the 15th frame.

"That was the most fortunate I have ever been in a match - I had a tremendous run of the ball," said Dale.

"In the last frame, Graeme went into the pack after potting the black and a red went in.

"That gave me the chance I needed and I fluked a red later on to make sure of the frame.

"That was the first match I have won against a top-16 player this season and I am relieved to get through."

Swail suffers

The third consecutive seed to fall was Swail who crashed 9-5 to Mark Davis of Sussex.

Trailing 5-3, Northern Ireland's Swail won the first frame of the evening session.

But then Davis, ranked 60, took control to win four of the last five, knocking in a 101 and a 100.

"Joe is absolute class on his day but he was not himself tonight," said Davis.

"It was a bit of a scrappy match but when I got the chances I scored heavily."
