Jersey's David Ward won gold in the 25m centre fire event in Aland, the 60th medal of his Island Games career.

The 60-year-old had a close battle with Menorca's Llorenc Marques Llorens, as both ended on 559 points.

Ward has won four medals at the Games, the others being gold in the 50m free pistol, bronze in the team 10m air pistol and silver in the team 50m free.

Ward had said before the Games that he was aiming to win his 60th medal in his 60th year.

He told BBC Jersey: "I was sure it couldn't get any better, but then the assistant team manager told me that my two gold medals have put us ahead of Gotland in the medals table."

Ward incurred a two-point penalty in the final due to firing too early, but said keeping a cool head is vital in shooting competition.

He said: "In this game you've got to be the iceman you can't let things put you off."
