British 49er pair clinch silver

John Pink and Rick Peacock
Pink and Peacock began the final day in fourth place

British pair Rick Peacock and John Pink took silver after a superb final day at the 49er World Championship in Riva del Garda, Italy, on Sunday.

The British development squad duo started the day in fourth place but fought their way up through the field.

Britain has now had a place on the Worlds podium eight times in a row.

The world title went to Australia's Nathan Outteridge, sailing with Iain Jensen, with Italian brothers Pietro and Gianfranco Sibello taking bronze.

Last year's silver medallists, Stevie Morrison and Ben Rhodes, finished fourth, while Athens bronze medallist Chris Draper and Peter Greenhalgh placed sixth in their first World Championship together.

Paul Campbell-James and Mark Asquith came in ninth, the lowest-placed of the four British boats to reach the 10-boat medal race.

"After we finished the medal race we thought we were third and were happy enough with that," said Pink.

"Then it turned out the Italians were another boat behind where we thought they were, which gave us the silver, so that made it even better."
