Shaw is confident she can do better on home water in September

Olympic windsurfing bronze medallist Bryony Shaw says she still has work to do before the World Championships after taking European bronze in Tel Aviv. Shaw, 26, from Tunbridge Wells, began the week strongly but struggled in Thursday's windy conditions. "It's highlighted the need to improve my fitness, but I'm really happy to be making the progress I am," she said. "I'm happy that it's job done but it has shown that I have a lot still to work on in preparation for the Worlds." Marina Alabau and Blanca Manchon took gold and silver for Spain in Israel. But Shaw is more confident about being able to challenge on home water in Weymouth for the Worlds in September. "It's been a lot hotter, a lot wavier and just different conditions to what we will be focussing on for Weymouth," she said of the European event. "It's also been a lot more of a physical event than at the Olympic Games. "We've had just enough wind to get racing every day, so had none of the waiting around and delays that we had at the Games, plus the heat was pretty severe."
