Lack of winds at the 2008 Olympic sailing events in Qingdao could mean all medal races taking place in a day.

Concerns about poor sailing conditions in August off the port city 800km from Beijing have dogged Chinese officials.

But Qingdao Olympic sailing committee spokesman Wang Haitao said a new International Sailing Federation rule could be used if necessary.

"During the Olympics, we just need one windy day in order to award the medals in the nine classes," he said.

Wang said that 92% of races at last August's Qingdao international regatta had been completed.
