New sailing record for Dame Ellen
Ellen MacArthur celebrates on board her boat
Ellen MacArthur was delighted with the reception she received
Record-breaking yachtswoman Dame Ellen MacArthur has set a new sailing record.

On 4 May she established a maxi-class record for sailing the 284 miles between St Nazaire and St Malo, France.

The 28-year-old, who is based on the Isle of Wight, completed the challenge in one day, three hours, 23 minutes and 29 seconds.

The sailor, who became the fastest person to sail solo around the world in 71 days in February, was onboard her trimaran B&Q with a four-man crew.

In April she also became the youngest person to receive a damehood.

Since Dame Ellen's triumphant circumnavigation her boat B&Q has been refitted at Lorient, France, and this was the first time it had been taken out for an extended sail.
