Cornish rower Helen Glover is targeting a place in the women's pairs final at the World Championships in New Zealand, which start on Sunday.

Glover will compete alongside Heather Stanning in rowing's showpiece event.

Glover told BBC Cornwall: "We'd love to get into the final - for our first World Championships that would be a really good result for us.

"Obviously once you're there anything can happen, and when we get there we'll hopefully have a really good race."

The Championships get under way at Lake Karapiro on Sunday, with racing continuing until 7 November.

Glover said: "It's getting really exciting now down at the course. All of the athletes are here, so I just want to get out and race."

The GB rowing team have been in New Zealand for nearly two weeks, acclimatising for the event.

"It's takes about a week to adjust properly," said Glover. "So we just took it quite steady for the first few days, and only now are getting into feeling really good and ready to race."

Fellow Cornish rower Annabel Vernon will also compete in New Zealand, racing in the quadruple scull, with Beth Rodford, Debbie Flood and Frances Houghton.

The World Championships are the last competition of the season, following the three World Cup events which took place in Europe over the summer.

Glover and Stanning came ninth in Bled, Slovenia and fifth in Munich during the World Cup series.
