Alan Campbell was fifth at the Beijing Olympics

Alan Campbell was easily beaten by world champion Mahe Drysdale in the final of the Diamond Sculls Challenge at the Henley Regatta on Sunday. Campbell, who beat Olympic champion Olaf Tufte in the semi-finals, was going for a Henley hat-trick but New Zealander Drysdale proved too strong. However, there was success for Peter Chambers in the quad final. His Durham University and Oxford Brookes team defeated Leander to win the Prince of Wales Challenge Cup. Drysdale also beat Campbell into second place at the recent Munich regatta. Earlier in the week, Campbell scorched into the Henley record books. In winning his heat on Thursday, the Northern Irishman made it to the Barrier (a distance of 2089 feet) in a time of two minutes four seconds. That bettered Drysdale's previous record by a second.
