Following Friday's unveiling of London's plans for the 2012 Olympics Games, sports stars and politicians deliver their verdict.
David Beckham - England football captain
"I was born in Leytonstone in Waltham Forest, one of the host boroughs for the London Olympics, and I played football on Hackney Marshes as a kid, so I'm very keen to support the 2012 bid.
"It would be great if the Games came to Great Britain where the people really appreciate their sport."
Jonathan Edwards - Olympic triple jump champion
"I live in Newcastle. People regularly come up to me and tell me how much they are supporting this bid. And this is in the north-east, which has no particular love of London.
"I believe in this country and it's ability to deliver. We can have great confidence in this bid and that the Games can come back to London in 2012."
Tanni Grey Thompson - 11-time Paralympic champion
"A successful London bid will inspire a generation of young disabled athletes. Disability sport started in Britain in the late 1940s and to get 2012 would be a fantastic homecoming for the Paralympics."
Kate Hoey - former sports minister
"If only the energy, commitment and money spent on pursuing this false panacea was directed at improving facilities and increasing investment. Then we could all wave the flag with pride."
Shirley Robertson - Olympic sailing gold medallist
"I can't imagine what it must be like to win an Olympic gold medal in your own country.
"A London Olympics would touch everybody and be an incredible inspiration to the whole country."
