Hertfordshire Mavericks maintain edge in netball league

Hertfordshire Mavericks stayed on top of netball's Superleague with a 63-36 win at Leeds Carnegie to maintain a two-point gap over Northern Thunder.

Thunder edged past Surrey Storm in a thrilling 50-49 victory on Saturday to draw level on points with the Mavericks before their Sunday stroll at Leeds.

Team Bath took advantage of Storm's loss to climb above them into third with easy back-to-back weekend wins.

They beat Celtic Dragons 68-29 before humbling Team Northumbria 73-29.

"It was a good team effort and the two matches have been amazing," said Team Bath captain and England international Pam Cookey. "We've really had a focus quarter by quarter."

With four rounds of the regular league campaign remaining the Mavericks, Thunder, Team Bath and Storm look set to fill the four end-of-season play-off places.
