England beaten by Aussies in semi

A masterful Australian display saw them beat England 51-33 and reach the final of the Netball World Championship.

England gave as good as they got in the early stages and were only trailing 11-10 at the end of the first quarter.

But while England's work ethic did not falter, they did not take their chances allowing Australia to slowly but surely stretch away for victory.

Australia will meet New Zealand in Saturday's final after the hosts beat Jamaica 59-49 in the other semi-final.

"England certainly made us work for it but we were prepared to stick to our guns and keep up the pressure," Australia coach Norma Plummer said.

"I think the pressure overall just won out and we had some outstanding kids out on that court tonight."

Wales lost 48-45 in their 11th place play-off with Trinidad & Tobago, while Barbados saw off Scotland 51-45 in their match for 13th place.

In Friday's other matches, Malawi beat the Cook Islands 67-41, South Africa overcame Samoa 54-50, Fiji beat Botswana 60-25 to take ninth place and Singapore beat Malaysia 59-44 to finish 15th.

England take on Jamaica in a third-place play-off on Saturday.
