Four goals in the opening 14 minutes set Nottingham Panthers on their way as they thrashed Coventry Blaze 5-1.

David Beauregard, Jeff Heerema and David Clarke put the visitors 3-0 ahead after seven minutes at the Skydome.

Stephen Lee added a fourth before the end of the opening period with Blaze's consolation coming via Luke Fulghum in the second.

Heerema hit Nottingham's final goal to keep Corey Neilson's side fourth in the Elite League but Blaze drop to sixth.

Blaze coach Paul Thompson told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire: "Four out of the six chances they had, they scored. It was an uphill battle after that.

"I thought in the second period we penned them in their end.

"I don't know what the shot count was but I know we had some really good chances.

"The difference in the teams is that they take theirs and we don't."

Panthers forward Heerema told BBC Radio Nottingham: "It's a big win and it's five in a row for us now.

"The crowd was behind them but a couple of goals at the start kind of killed them and they lost confidence and we took it from there.

Heerema added: "We shut the door on them and the keeper came up with some huge saves and we came out with the win.

"It's going well and we just need to keep working hard and we'll see what happens."
