Hull Stingrays face closure due to financial problems

Cloutier has put together an exciting squad for the 2010/11 season

Hull Stingrays could be forced out of business before the start of the Elite League season because of pressing debts, BBC Look North reports.

The club have been unable to attract a major sponsor for the forthcoming campaign after the previous backer pulled out last season.

Club owner Sue Pack said she was "not prepared to make any comment".

The club are due to play Cardiff Devils on 4 September and had been actively recruiting players during the summer.

Last season Hull finished bottom of the Elite League but had shown signs of improvement under player-coach Sylvain Cloutier before the end of the campaign.

It is believed that season ticket sales are down but the club had been able to raise some money over the summer from smaller sponsorship deals although this has fallen short of what they need to continue.
