Giants beat Vipers to make semis

Jeff Szwez scored in both legs of the play-offs quarter-final

The Belfast Giants defeated Newcastle Vipers 6-2 on Sunday to progress to the Elite League play-offs semi-finals.

The second-leg win in Newcastle gave the Giants a 10-3 victory on aggregate.

Jeff Szwez put the visitors ahead but Jerramie Domish levelled before Evan Cheverie restored Belfast's lead with the first of his two goals.

Matic Kralj equalised before player/coach Steve Thornton made it 3-2 and goals from Pat Bateman, Colin Shields and Cheverie completed the easy win.
