Nottingham Panthers kept up their pursuit of leaders Sheffield with a 4-1 victory over Coventry on Saturday.

Dan Tessier scored twice on his 30th birthday and there was one goal each for Matthew Myers and Jade Galbraith.

Tessier told BBC Radio Nottingham: "It was a big win for us. Every time we play Coventry it's always a big game.

"We wanted to win so badly and we did so it's perfect. We have one thing on our minds right now and that's winning every game."

A well-worked powerplay gave Panthers the lead in the first period as Matthew Myers scored on a rebound.

Blaze replied by sweeping down the ice as Jonathan Weaver jumped into the play to level the scores.

Panthers second was also on the powerplay. Swift, crisp one-time passing saw Galbraith fire high from the left circle with JF Perras out of position.

Tessier scored his first of the night short-handed when Perras allowed a weak shot from just inside the blue line to trickle in.

The birthday boy's second came courtesy of defensive mistakes by the Blaze.

Former Panthers defenceman Jon Coleman jumped into the play on the left-wing, and David Clarke and Marc Levers combined to set Tessier free.

The 30-year-old fired past Perras for a convincing 4-1 victory and Panthers second victory over the Blaze in two weeks.
