Nottingham Panthers have moved quickly to replace Chris Richards by re-signing centreman Dan Tessier.
The 29-year-old played for Panthers in 2005 but quit three months into the season for a move to Switzerland.
He then iced for rivals Sheffield Steelers and after spells in Germany and North America, he returned to help Steelers win the play-offs this year.
Tessier told BBC Radio Nottingham: "I'm very excited to return to Nottingham. I feel I have some unfinished business."
Forward Richards announced he would not be joining the club as first thought after he secured a job outside the sport, which will allow him to carry on playing back in his native Canada.
