Two goals in the last six minutes from Barrie Moore and Curtis Huppe handed Coventry Blaze a 4-2 victory over Newcastle Vipers.
Both sides were allowed to ice just four of their imports in the Best of British challenge match at the Skydome.
Coventry took the lead through James Archer only to be pegged back by Ben Campbell before Huppe netted his first.
Former Blaze player Jeff Hutchins levelled the match but strikes by Moore and Huppe sealed Coventry's win.
Blaze head coach Paul Thompson opted to draft in several players from the club's ENL roster for the match rather than rely on juniors and guest players from other clubs.
Sylvain Cloutier and Danny Stewart, along with goalscorers Huppe and Moore, were the non-British members of the Coventry team.
