Debussy wins Arlington Million for John Gosden

Horse racing

British trainer John Gosden scored a surprise success as Debussy won the Arlington Million in the United States.

The 11-1 chance, under William Buick, saw off defending champion Gio Ponti.

Earlier in Ireland, Pathfork won the Futurity Stakes at the Curragh for trainer Jessica Harrington and is now about 12-1 for the 2000 Guineas.

The 10-11 favourite saw off Glor Na Mara in a race which has been landed in the past by Dewhurst Stakes winners Teofilo (2006) and New Approach (2007).

Pathfork ran out an easy winner by a length and a quarter under Fran Berry.

Harrington, best known for National Hunt horses such as Moscow Flyer, is enjoying a run of success on the Flat.
