Droitwich jeweller and amateur jockey David Griffiths comfortably won the John Smith's People's Race on Grand National day at Aintree.

Griffiths was one of 10 amateur jockeys who won the right to compete in the 11-furlong flat race.

Riding the Ian Williams-trained Mith Hill, Griffiths made the running and ran out a winner by 15 lengths.

His prize money of more than £50,000 will be divided between the County Air Ambulance and the Injured Jockeys fund.
