Wincanton and Sandown called off

Saturday's race meetings at Wincanton and Sandown have been abandoned because of heavy overnight frost.

Temperatures at Wincanton dipped to -4C and although take-offs and landings were covered, it was not enough to save the day's racing card.

Clerk of the course Barry Johnson said: "Things were not going to improve fast enough and we had no other option."

Sandown's clerk Andrew Cooper said: "The hill here is frozen in the shade so it was a relatively easy call."
