Exeter course to honour Best Mate

Best Mate
Best Mate was a three-time Cheltenham Gold Cup winner

Exeter racecourse is to remember the legendary racehorse Best Mate.

The triple Cheltenham Gold Cup winner will be honoured with the first running of the newly-named Best Mate Beginners' Chase on 21 October.

Best Mate began his steeplechase career in the equivalent race in 2000 and it was also in the Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter that Best Mate died in 2005.

Jim Lewis, Best Mate's owner, will be on hand to present the prizes in a race worth £12,000.
