Watch a full race replay as Lush Lashes storms to victory at Royal Ascot
ROYAL ASCOT 2008 Date:
Tuesday 17-Saturday 21 June First race: 1430 BST
Coverage: Live on BBC One (1345-1520) and BBC Two (1520-1715), BBC Radio Five Live and the BBC Sport website
Kevin Manning gave Lush Lashes (5-1) a fine ride as the well-backed second favourite was a clear winner of the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.
The favourite Spacious never figured in the closing stages, leaving the other Cheveley Park Stud fancy Infallible to fight out the finish with the winner.
But Lush Lashes pulled well clear, and outsider Carribean Sunset took third.
The filly maintained the trend of all six Group One winners at the meeting being trained outside England.
Irish trainer Jim Bolger said: "I didn't think she could win in that style, but we knew after Epsom [when she was fifth in the Oaks] that she was going the right way.
Lashes lined up for Curragh after Ascot win
"I was very tempted to go for the Ribblesdale, but having won a Group race already a Group 3 at York in May] we thought we would upgrade her to a Group 1."
Manning, who secured his second career Royal Ascot win having won aboard Cuis Ghaire in the first race on Friday, said: "It makes the job very easy when they have got the speed like that."
Bolger, who also saddled the Derby winner New Approach with the same jockey on board, said Lush Lashes would definitely take her chance in the Irish Oaks at the Curragh on 13 July.
It was the fifth Group One prize of the week to head across the Irish Sea, after Haradasun, Henrythenavigator, Duke Of Marmalade and Yeats had all struck for Ballydoyle maestro Aidan O'Brien.
I was delighted with my filly who is so tough and genuine... her next race could be the American Oaks
Trainer of Carribean Sunset
There was a rough beginning to the race with plenty of jockeys vying for an early position before Frankie Dettori bagged the rail on Nahoodh.
He dictated a sensible pace up front but Manning was always travelling sweetly on the eventual winner, who came in for telling support from the punters just before the off.
He moved his mount up to challenge for the lead at around the one-furlong pole and while Infallible did throw down a decent enough challenge, she was soon brushed aside by Bolger's ace.
Another Irish trainer, Dermot Weld, was delighted by Carribean Sunset's performance.
He said: "That was a vintage renewal of the Coronation Stakes and I was delighted with my filly who is so tough and genuine.
"Her next race could be the American Oaks at Hollywood Park in a fortnight."
