Simon and Andrew Thornton clear the last at Kempton

Andrew Thornton made a memorable return to racing after three weeks on the sidelines as he guided Simon to victory in the Racing Post Chase at Kempton.
The 11-2 shot edged ahead of long-time leader Lucifer Bleu at the second to last and went on to win by 10 lengths ahead of Cornish Sett and Lacdoudal.
"He's got stamina and guts," said Thornton, back after a leg injury.
"I was thinking I might have three months on the sidelines but thankfully it's only been three weeks."
Thornton urged Simon on throughout the race and tried to go through Lucifer Bleu and Limerick Boy at the third from last.
The gap was closed that time but Simon had enough left to take the lead and stay on to give owner-breeder, former trainer Mercy Rimell, the win.
Exeter cancelled Saturday's 1400 inspection and will instead stage a 0730 precautionary inspection ahead of Sunday's meeting.
