McEvoy in hospital after tumble
Kerrin McEvoy
Australian McEvoy is one of Flat racing's rising stars
Jockey Kerrin McEvoy has been taken to hospital in Melbourne after a crashing fall at Flemington racecourse.

McEvoy, who is the Godolphin stable's number two jockey to Frankie Dettori in the summer, suffered a head injury.

He was initially unconscious, but reports in Australia say he is now talking and likely to fully recover.

McEvoy, who was seriously injured at the same meeting last year, was riding Butterfield in the Crown Trophy when he appeared to clip the heels of Vie.

Vie's rider Dwayne Dunn, and McEvoy, crashed to the turf.

Dunn was quickly on his feet, but McEvoy was treated by medics before being taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital in a conscious and stable state.

Australian McEvoy was thought to have suffered bruising to the brain and possibly a cracked vertebra.

Dunn faces a future stewards' inquiry after video footage showed his mount shifting towards the outside rail when about three-quarters of a length clear of Butterfield.

McEvoy, who won the 2000 Melbourne Cup on Brew, has built up a growing reputation in England since landing the 2004 St Leger with Rule of Law.
