Derby runners and riders
Vodafone Derby, Epsom, 1m 4f,
1620 BST, Saturday 3 June

(Number, form, horse's name, age, weight, trainer, jockey)

Honest Frank's choice:
1 Papal Bull 2 Horatio Nelson 3 Linda's Lad

1 15-1 ATLANTIC WAVES 3-9-0
Joe Fanning Mark Johnston
Was possibly a fortunate winner when defeating subsequent 2,000 Guineas third Olympian Odyssey at Newmarket back in April. Relative inexperience could count against him.
Rating: 5/10 Odds: 22-1

2 01-2114 BEFORE YOU GO 3-9-0
Ian Mongan Terry Mills
Won trial at Epsom in April for local trainer, who has promised to demolish old Epsom grandstand himself if he wins. Should be saved the trouble.
Rating: 3/10 Odds: 150-1

3 0314-2 BEST ALIBI 3-9-0
Ryan Moore Sir Michael Stoute
Finished second to Septimus in Dante Stakes on reappearance. Trainer has won the Derby four times.
Rating: 6/10 Odds: 33-1

4 112-1 CHAMPIONSHIP POINT 3-9-0
Ted Durcan Mick Channon
Tennis-loving owner John Livock and trainer Mick Channon, a former England footballer, have a sporting chance with this Predominate Stakes winner.
Rating: 7/10 Odds: 16-1

5 0-322 DRAGON DANCER 3-9-0
Darryll Holland Geoff Wragg
Second to Papal Bull in the Chester Vase but has yet to triumph in four starts, and doubtful the first win will come here.
Rating: 5/10 Odds: 66-1

6 1126-1 DYLAN THOMAS 3-9-0
Johnny Murtagh Aidan O'Brien IRE
Named after famous poet and one of five runners for John Magnier's Ireland-based Coolmore operation. Earned place with fine win in Leopardstown trial. Jockey's third Derby win came on Motivator in 2005.
Rating: 7/10 Odds: 20-1

7 1 HALA BEK 3-9-0
Philip Robinson Michael Jarvis
Considered a major Derby contender after winning sole race, although training setback since leaves some cause for concern.
Rating: 7/10 Odds: 11-1

8 11112-0 HORATIO NELSON 3-9-0
Kieren Fallon Aidan O'Brien IRE
The choice of Kieren Fallon, three times a Derby winner in the last eight years, from the Coolmore bunch. Finished down the field in 2,000 Guineas.
Rating: 8/10 Odds: 4-1

9 1211-41 LINDA'S LAD 3-9-0
Frankie Dettori Andre Fabre FR
Can it be 14th time lucky in the Derby for Frankie Dettori? His mount has a reasonable shout based on some consistent performances.
Rating: 8/10 Odds: 11-1

10 214-42 MOUNTAIN 3-9-0
Seamus Heffernan Aidan O'Brien IRE
Second to stablemate Dylan Thomas last time, but appears to have a mountain to climb this time.
Rating: 4/10 Odds: 66-1

11 NODDIES WAY 3-9-0
Robert Miles John Panvert
Betting says it all for the racecourse debutant. Might have a chance if the Derby was run in Toytown. Looks completely out of his depth.
Rating: 3/10 Odds: 1000-1

12 421-11 PAPAL BULL 3-9-0
Robert Winston Sir Michael Stoute
Impressed Kieren Fallon when he rode him to victory in the Chester Vase. Added to Derby at cost of 75,000. Fallon has opted instead for Horatio Nelson, but possible he has made the wrong choice.
Rating: 8/10 Odds: 8-1

13 113-01 SEPTIMUS 3-9-0
Mick Kinane Aidan O'Brien IRE
Cosy winner of the Dante Stakes at York, a good trial for this race in recent years. Form of that race has been questioned, and may not be pick of Coolmore contenders.
Rating: 7/10 Odds: 8-1

14 010-32 SIENNA STORM 3-9-0
Michael Hills Mark Tompkins
Third behind Before You go in trial at Epsom in April, then staying-on second to Championship Point. Jockey won the Derby on Shaamit 10 years ago.
Rating: 7/10 Odds: 500-1

15 1111-2 SIR PERCY 3-9-0
Martin Dwyer Marcus Tregoning
Creditable second to George Washington in 2,000 Guineas. Finished stiff and sore after that race in early May. A major player if he has fully recovered.
Rating: 7/10 Odds: 13-2

16 61 SIXTIES ICON 3-9-0
Shane Kelly Jeremy Noseda
Well-bred son of 2001 Derby winner Galileo, although trainer said he was unlikely to win a Classic after he succeeded last time out at Windsor.
Rating: 6/10 Odds: 200-1

17 313 SNOQUALMIE BOY 3-9-0
John Egan David Elsworth
Well beaten when third to Septimus in Dante Stakes. Trainer is a colourful figure, who enjoyed success with Desert Orchid over the jumps and Persian Punch on the Flat.
Rating: 5/10 Odds: 200-1

18 1-11 VISINDAR 3-9-0
Christophe Soumillon Andre Fabre FR
Done little wrong and obvious claims on breeding. A worthy favourite, but just seems a bit obvious! Champion French trainer's best Derby placing is ninth from seven runners.
Rating: 7/10 Odds: 5-2
