Former Cheltenham winner Danoli has been put down at the age of 18 after suffering a severe bout of colic .
Danoli enjoyed huge success before being retired in 2000
The six-times Group One winner won 17 of his 32 career starts and claimed victory in the Royal & Sun Alliance Novices Hurdle in 1994.
Danoli's trainer, Tom Foley, said: "He was a great horse for us, and we will always have fond memories."
Foley's charge also won the Aintree, Morgiana and Hatton's Grace Hurdle under Charlie Swan.
"They tried everything they could and had no choice but to put him down, which was a great pity," said Foley.
Swan told the Racing Post: "People loved him because he was such a tough and genuine horse.
"If he could have jumped fences as well as he did hurdles, he could have even been a Gold Cup horse."
The gelding was put down at the Irish National Stud in Kildare over the weekend.
