Supreme Prince reigns at Newbury
Supreme Prince and Paul Flynn

Supreme Prince won Newbury's Vodafone Gold Cup to give trainer Philip Hobbs his 100th winner of the season.

Jockey Paul Flynn committed the 7-1 shot early up the straight but left enough in the tank to repel the late surge of Horus.

Chauvinist did nothing wrong to finish in third while Simply Gifted landed a notable fourth.

Favourite Buckby Lane faded badly while Venn Ottery finished well back on his first start for trainer Martin Pipe.

At Doncaster, Run For Paddy pulled off a thrilling victory in the valuable Grimthorpe Chase.

Noel Fehily stayed in the slipstream of Lou Du Moulin Mas before easing up his inside three lengths from home.

Run For Paddy looked like he would pull away at that point but Paul Nicholls' mount managed to get within a whisker.

Run For Paddy's trainer Mark Pitman said: "I thought he was going to win easily but a lot of credit must go to Lou Du Moulin Mas."

Despite finishing seventh, connections of last year's Grand National winner Amberleigh House were happy with their horse's display in his last outing before next month's race at Aintree.

"That was grand," said Donald McCain, the son of trainer Ginger McCain, who saw jockey Jason Maguire replace the injured Graham Lee on board the 13-year-old.

"Jason was more than happy with him too, and said that if he had been really hard on him he could have finished a little closer.

"He will now go back home for a few days off. But he will soon be back galloping and will have a racecourse gallop at Bangor on the Saturday before Aintree."
