Collier Hill denied Vinnie Roe a fifth consecutive win in the Irish St Leger as he snatched a thrilling victory in the closing stages at the Curragh.
Vinnie Roe took the lead as they turned for home but he ran out of steam near the end and Collier Hill moved ahead to wrap up victory by half-a-length.
Joint favourite Vinnie Roe ended up in third as 33-1 shot The Whistling Teal nipped in to take second place.
He had been last for much of the race before a tremendous finishing burst.
The other joint favourite Yeats never looked like winning although he did finish in fourth.
Collier Hill was ridden by Dean McKeown, who said: "We beat Foreign Affairs in the Stockholm Cup and on a line through him I knew we had a good chance of beating Vinnie Roe and he has improved a stone since then."
Trainer Alan Swinbank's assistant Bill Haigh said: "It's just a wonderful result. He's a super horse and the ground was beautiful. I imagine he will be going for the Melbourne Cup now."
