Millenary claims Doncaster double
Millenary
What a beautiful ride
Millenary trainer John Dunlop on Richard Quinn
Millenary won the Doncaster Cup for the second year running under a brilliant ride from Richard Quinn.

The eight-year-old horse, who dead-heated in the race last year, came through with a perfectly timed run to prevail from Sergeant Cecil.

High Action and Cover Up had made a bid to steal their rivals' thunder, but ran out of steam in the closing stages.

It left the John Dunlop-trained Millenary (11-4) with the ideal chance to follow up his Lonsdale Cup success.

Kasthari, who dead-heated with Millenary in 2004, finished in third while favourite Distinction was unable to land a blow.

Millenary has now won 12 races for almost £1 million in prize money and plans to retire him to stud could be postponed for another year.

"He might very well stay in training next year," said Dunlop.

"We were thinking about finding a little stallion job somewhere for him but if he's in this sort of form I don't think he needs to go anywhere else."

Earlier, Iffraaj beat favourite Sleeping Indian by a short head in a gripping finish to the Park Stakes at Doncaster.

Philip Robinson just edged the four-year-old winner (7-1), trained by Michael Jarvis, clear on the line at the rain-soaked course.

Sleeping Indian, with Kevin Darley on board, looked to have stolen the race but was collared in the final strides.

Court Masterpiece finished third in the 11-runner Group Two contest over seven furlongs.

Richard Hughes guided Nasheej to victory in the May Hill Stakes on day two of the St Leger meeting.

The 4-1 chance, trained by Richard Hannon, saw off outsiders High Heel Sneakers and Speciosa in the mile contest for two-year-old fillies.

Hughes waited for his moment to strike and his mount relished the step up in trip to win by a length.

Favourite Pure Illusion pulled hard in the early stages and offered little when asked to get competitive.

Bookmakers William Hill make Nasheej a 25-1 shot for next year's 1,000 Guineas and 20-1 for the Oaks.
