Divine Proportions lost her unbeaten record as Godolphin challenger Dubawi powered to success in the Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville.
The Irish 2,000 Guineas winner, ridden by Kerrin McEvoy, went off second favourite behind Divine Proportions and ran on strongly for the win.
Dubawi, trained by Pascal Bary, found little during the race and could not cope when the pace quickened.
Whipper finished second with Andre Fabre's Valixir in third.
Pacemakers Council Member and Semarang set a strong gallop through the early stages, with Dubawi and Divine Proportions matching strides in third and fourth.
But McEvoy brought his mount to the front with two furlongs left to run in the mile race, with the son of Dubai Millennium displaying a fine turn of foot which brought him to the line.
Whipper came from way back but could not get to the winner.
