Ill Fastnet Rock retired to stud
Australian trainers Shannon and Paul Perry with Choisir

Australian sprinter Fastnet Rock has been retired after failing to recover from a bout of travel sickness.

Trainer Paul Perry sent the four-year-old to England for next week's Royal Ascot at York meeting and Newmarket's July meeting.

But the colt did not travel well and will now return to Australia to stand in stud.

"The horse looks and feels great but hasn't recovered 100% from the travel sickness," said Perry's son Shannon.

"Unfortunately we've lost the race against time to have him ready for Ascot and the July Cup at Newmarket so he'll retire straight to Coolmore, Australia.

"As everyone in Australia knows, he's a truly brilliant sprinter so it's a great pity he wasn't able to prove it up here."

In 2003, Perry brought over Choisir, who won both the King's Stand Stakes and the Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot.
