Swinburn gets off the mark
Walter Swinburn
Swinburn won eight English Classics as a jockey
Triple Derby-winning jockey Walter Swinburn saddled his first winner as a trainer when Grand Show won a maiden race at Lingfield.

It was the eighth runner that Swinburn had sent out since he took over his father-in-law Peter Harris' yard at the beginning of the month.

The 7-4 favourite was ridden by Richard Quinn and carried the colours of Harris's wife Caryl.

The 42-year-old Swinburn rode Shergar to victory in the Epsom Derby at the age of 19 but retired from race-riding in 2000 because of weight problems.

"That was much more nerve-wracking watching than it ever was when I was riding," said Swinburn.
