Stable switch for Shamardal
Kevin Darley rides Shamardal to victory in the Darley Dewhurst Stakes

Darley Dewhurst Stakes winner Shamardal has been added to the Godolphin stable for the new Flat season.

The two-year-old is the current 3-1 ante-post favourite for next year's 2,000 Guineas.

He has been unbeaten in his three starts this season, including his Group One Dewhurst win earlier this month.

Shamardal had previously been trained by Mark Johnston for Sheikh Maktoum's Gainsborough Stud but was originally owned by Abdulla Buhaleeba.

Shamardal is one of two Johnston-trained mounts to move to Godolphin with highly-rated Queen Elizabeth II Stakes runner-up Lucky Story also making the switch.

Shamardal and Lucky Story will spend the winter in Dubai with Godolphin's other new recruits Layman, Windsor Knot and Suez.

Johnston admitted that he would be sorry to say goodbye to the two horses.

"We always knew there was a chance they might be switched to Dubai and we are very grateful to have had the opportunity to train them until now," he said.
