Racewatch: Day three

Frankie Dettori completed a double on Ladies' Day at Royal Ascot on Thursday as he won the Gold Cup on board Papineau.

The Godolphin horse shrugged off doubts about his stamina to win the Ascot showpiece in handsome fashion.

1730 BST - Britannia Stakes (1m)
1 Mandobi (A Stewart) K Fallon 8-1
2 Lucayan Legend 20-1
3 Thyolo 9-1
4 Fine Silver 16-1 27 ran

Kieren Fallon gained some compensation for the defeat of Mr Dinos in the Gold Cup when he took the concluding Britannia Stakes on Mandobi.

The champion jockey came with a blistering late run on the stands rails to lead inside the final furlong and win going away from Lucayan Legend.

Thyolo was third and Fine Silver fourth, with the first four all coming down the near side.

1655 BST - Hampton Court Stakes (1m 2f)
1 Moscow Ballet (A P O'Brien) J P Spencer 8-1
2 Crocodile Dundee 20-1
3 Mutafanen 9-1
13 ran Dist: 1, 1

Moscow Ballet produced a fine front-running performance to land the Hampton Court Stakes.

Crocodile Dundee tried to challenge but Moscow Ballet strode away from the field.

Mutafanen stayed on from the back to chase Crocodile Dundee home in third.

1620 BST - King George V Stakes (1m 4f)
1 Admiral (M Stoute) N MacKay 9-1
2 Maraahel 6-1f
3 Etmaam 8-1
4 Le Tiss 40-1
17 ran Dist: Nk, Sh

Nicky MacKay claimed his first Royal Ascot winner as Admiral led home a one-two for Sir Michael Stoute.

After making much of the running Admiral fell back five furlongs out before Mackay coaxed a strong finish from his mount.

Maraahel and Etmaam both finished strongly but Admiral just had the legs to get home.

1545 BST - Gold Cup (2m 4f)
1 Papineau 5-1 (S Bin Suroor) L Dettori
2 Westerner 13-2
3 Darasim 28-1
13 ran Dist 1, 2

Papineau cruised to victory to give Frankie Dettori his fourth winner of the meeting.

Ingrandire took them round until Westerner hit the front with two furlongs to go, with Papineau soon coming to join the leader.

The Godolphin horse was travelling very well and he left Westerner trailing behind in second, with Darasim staying on to take third.

1505 BST - Ribblesdale Stakes (1m 4f)
1 Punctilious 9-2 (S Bin Suroor) L Dettori
2 Sahool 7-1
3 Quiff 7-2f
9 ran Dist: 1, 1

Punctilious produced a storming finish to send Frankie Dettori to the top of the Royal Ascot jockey's table with three winners.

Sahool tried to lead pillar to post but Punctilious drew level with two furlongs to go and broke Sahool's resistance inside the final furlong.

Quiff, who was backed down to favourite on the day, was a well-beaten third.

1430 BST - Norfolk Stakes (5 furlongs)
1 Blue Dakota (J Noseda) E Ahern 5-4f
2 Mystical Land 9-1
3 Skywards 4-1
9 ran Dist: Nk, 1

Favourite Blue Dakota held off a strong challenge from Mystical Land to make it four wins out of four.

Skywards made the early running at a fearsome pace before Blue Dakota took over with two furlongs to go.

Blue Dakota was travelling very easily and looked like an easy winner before Mystical Land's late surge gave favourite backers brief concern.
