High Accolade edged an exciting battle with Self Defense to win the Barnardo's Cumberland Lodge Stakes on the third and final day of the Ascot Festival.

Self Defense took up the running in the final two furlongs but High Accolade, ridden by Martin Dwyer, refused to be beaten and held on by a neck.

Bandari was third in the Group Three contest, run over 1m 4f.

High Accolade, who is trained by Marcus Tregoning, also won the race last year.

The Cumberland Lodge Stakes was the feature event on the last day of racing at Ascot before the track is shut for a £185m redevelopment, expected to last 20 months.

Earlier in the day, Ascot hero Frankie Dettori marked the final day of racing at his favourite course with a win on Badminton.

Dettori made racing history when he rode every winner on the card at this meeting eight years ago.
